Setting Personal Goals

Goals are related to many different areas of our lives. More precisely, personal goals are about those goals that deal within ourselves. These goals are directly about us and relate to many areas of our lives. These goals are strictly about who we are as a person and directly involve us.

Personal goals can include any of the following areas:

  1. Academic – These goals deal with learning – whether in school or through other trainings.
  2. Professional – These goals are about growing within the career that you select. Areas within your job in which you want to improve.
  3. Financial – Any goal that deals with your situation related to money. Dealing with how much you want to earn and how that is tied with your career goals.
  4. Relationships – These goals are about your family, significant other, friends or anyone else. Establishing relationship goals with that person and growing the relationship.
  5. Physical – Staying fit, going to the gym, eating healthy, or anything related to your physical being are in this category.
  6. Creative – These goals are about your creative sense. Whether you like to draw, paint, write, sing, play an instrument or perform any creative action, the creative area is about those goals.
  7. Giving Back – These goals are about your involvement in the community. These goals deal with volunteering, fundraising, or being active in any other way.
  8. Personal Development – Deals with goals that might not be necessarily tied to a specific area from above, but they deal with you becoming a better person in your self-development.

Which goals are more important?

They are all important. Every goal that you set – whether long-term, short-term – has an effect on who you are as a person.

Every goal that you set has a way to teach you something about yourself. Nevertheless, personal goals yield to many other areas of your life. Those goals translate directly into the goals you want to reach because they change and improve something within you… They have a direct effect and because of that they allow you to tie in other areas of your life.

Of course, personal goals can deal with other areas of your life not mentioned here, but if the goals deal with you as a person, then they can be categorized as personal goals.

Think of personal goals as any goals that you can control in order to get to the level that you are searching.

As you can see, there are different ways to think about personal goals. Another way is setting goals that deal with your personal development, your happiness, who you are as a person. It is about what’s inside of you, how to improve who you are.

These types of goals are about dealing with habits, actions, changing the mindset. Transforming those thoughts and actions deal directly with the development of a person.

An example of a personal development goal related to personal development would be improving your mindset to a more positive mindset. Another example of a personal development goal can be related to working on your personal habits.

As you can see, personal development goals are directly related to how you improve yourself. It does not necessarily deal with anything else, it is just about the development of the persona and who you are. They can many times dictate what the personal goals will entail.

How to implement personal goals?

You might want to first pick out the area that you need to work in. What is the number ONE area that you feel unbalanced in your life right now? The one area in your life that needs the most help? You can only select one area, not more than that.

When you select that area in particular, you are able to devote 100% of your focus and attention to that specific area. Then, when you are ready, then have a plan to how you are going to achieve that goal. You can select to set your goals as SMART Goals, or apply another tactic.
