I hear people say that life is too much for them… They arrive home very late and don’t have time for anything, yet alone work on their goals.

I understand, I feel like that too. Sometimes I have to do things I don’t like, but I know that those things are making me a better person, a better wife, or a better professional. But, there are actions that we can do to avoid feeling sad and unproductive…

  1. Always Be Prepared

If there’s something life has taught me is that you have to be prepared, all the time. I’m not just talking about being prepared when it comes to reaching goals, I’m talking about being prepared for anything.

My mom taught me a very valuable lesson the other day. I had invited my parents for dinner with me and my husband. Unfortunately, things happened. My husband’s close friend had a very tough situation, so my mind took over this issue. I naturally had to cancel the plans with my parents since we didn’t know if we were going to be able to have them for dinner. It seems so simple, but if I would’ve been prepared before this situation took place, I would’ve been able to have my parents over for dinner. Yet, I procrastinated and didn’t plan ahead. I wasn’t prepared…

What did I learn? It’s not just about setting goals, it’s about finding ways to always being prepared. Of course, my parents understood the situation, but I should’ve delivered and shouldn’t have canceled.

What I’m getting is that if you’re prepared – whether is for something at home, school, or on the job, you’re always ahead of the game…. There are no surprises!

  1. Don’t let “Tiredness” Take Over

This is a big one! Everyone feels so tired. Many people work 12+ hours a day and then have to take care of the home and the family. Even if you work less hours or don’t work at all, there are still so many things to do.

If there’s something that you can do to avoid feeling tired is being alert and avoiding that feeling and thought of “Oh man, I’m so tired…”. Don’t feed your mind those negative thoughts. If you start to feel tired, then go for a walk, wash your face with cold water, do some exercise (jumping jacks are great!). The point is to do our best to feel awake!

Of course, you can do many other actions – eating healthier, avoiding sugars, eating fruits and vegetables and exercising regularly. All of these have a direct effect on our bodies and the more we can take care of them, the better we will feel.

  1. Focus on Priorities and Productiveness

These two words go hand-in-hand: Priorities and Productiveness…. When you have a clear set of priorities, you fight until you complete them. The best way to get that accomplished is by focusing on being productive.

There are many “secrets” to staying productive: you can work 45 minutes and take 5 minutes off (or some variation of it – it’s called the Pomodoro Technique). You can prioritize the most important tasks to get them done when you’re at your peak productive levels. You can work towards being productive by writing things down, you can also stick to the “focus on one project” approach…

There are many other techniques to being productive and fulfilling our priorities. The most important is to get started and to put in place what you believe will help you be more productive….

I hope that these 3 tips help you on your goal –setting journey. Keep in mind that these habits and routines are not easy to do, but with hard work and dedication you will be able to reach your destination. Remember, you just have to get started.

Oh and one more thing! When you start working on these tips you’ll feel amazing. You’re going to want to just take over the work and keep on going. It happens to me when I tell myself to only work for 1 hour, then I look at the time and it’s been 3 hours! When you love what you do (or when you find to love what you do) you tend to oversee time.

Good luck on your goal setting journey. Don’t make any excuses and let’s get started on your goal setting journey.

All the best!
