Many people are confused with who they are today. They ask themselves, “Where am I in life?” “Do I need to go back to school to get a degree? Do I need to get a better job to provide for my life? What AM I SUPPOSED to do?”
Sometimes we wish we had a book with all the answers, we wish we could go to a doctor, tell the doctor what are our “symptoms”, and have the doctor prescribe the “medicine” to what we are “supposed to do”.
It might sound great to some people, but in all practicality… It takes away the fun in what is life, it takes away your personal touch into what you want and you put your life in the hands of some other people who might not really know what’s important for you.
There is no such thing as “supposed to do” – everyone is different and everyone has different aspirations and dreams to get to… We don’t fit in a one size fits all approach anymore…
When it comes to goal setting in defining and achieving our goals, we are the only ones who know what we want, what we need, and what we will appreciate. We don’t need to live someone else’s life, we need to live our life and define our purpose.
So how do we get to the point of KNOWING what we want?
- One way is by simply feeling it, knowing it in your heart, mind and spirit that this is the right step to take, the right thing to do… You will never know if the decision you made was right or wrong unless you take the first step by making a decision. Feeling that the right decision will bring something positive to your life and knowing your life will improve, is a step in the right direction.
- Another way is by evaluating and reflecting what and who you are right now. You can take some time to think and feel your current situation. Ask yourself if this current state is where you want to be right now and for your future. Your answer will give you the evaluation that you need to be who you want to be.

Evaluating these thoughts every week gives you an opportunity to define your life and know if this is how you want to live your life… This also allows you to celebrate your accomplishments because when you write them down, you realize what you’ve done in your life…
It’s motivating to remember that you’ve done so much to get to where you are, everyone has done something remarkable in your life. Use that as motivation to drive you forward…
Learning from these lessons…
Everything has a lesson, including our wins and losses… When you are evaluating, reflecting, knowing whether or not this is the path you want to take, you learn from your mistakes and you learn from your accomplishments.
The beauty is that you’re able to keep on moving forward and make the changes you need so that you become the person who you want to be. The only way you will be able to achieve your dreams is when you learn to take the necessary steps that will get you closer to your goals.
Learning from these lessons also gives you the feedback that you need to improve the life you live. If we never learn from our mistakes, then we are stuck in the same state of being. If we continue to do the same thing over and over again, then we won’t break out of this constant circle that is not taking us anywhere.
For that reason, make sure you learn as you go and make the changes you need to make in order to be the person who you want to be.
Finally, translate your inner feelings to actions. The only way you will reach your goals is when you actually do something about it. When you decide to take a path and you just go for it. It might not be easy, but how else do you want to live your dream?
I hope you know that everyone has doubts, fears and everyone makes mistakes… You’re not the only one and you won’t be the last. So, now that you feel what you want to do, give yourself time to first evaluate and reflect who you are and what you want. Just take a few days (2-3 max) and then start implementing your plan. Remember, you can do this, you can define how you get to your dreams.
It is up to you to define the recipe for your life, only YOU are qualified enough to do it – no doctor can tell you if you’re right or wrong, it is about how to be a better person, how to reach your goals and get to the top of the mountain you’re climbing.
